Sustainability

Leadership for Lawyers llc is pleased to announce that we are now carbon neutral.  We accomplished this goal in three ways:

1.  We have contracted with renewable electricity suppliers, resulting in 100% of our power from wind and hydro.  The Cheyenne Ridge Wind Project, operated by Xcel Energy, produces 500 megawatt of electricity from 229 turbines in Cheyenne and Kit Carson counties in eastern Colorado.  Our New York office is powered by the Sissonville Hydro facility on the Raquette River in Potsdam, NY.  Originally developed to grind pulp for a paper company, the site has been retrofitted to produce electricity, powering 2100 homes and businesses through its “craft electricity” operator, Northern Power and Light.

2.   We have switched to a hybrid vehicle, reducing both fuel consumption and carbon emissions.

3.  We have offset our carbon footprint (including air travel) by partnering with two organizations that plant trees and employ local workers and volunteers to reforest critical areas of land in South America and Africa.  We are investing in reforestation through the Eden Reforestation Projects and various volunteer led projects funded through the World Organization of the Scout Movement.  Both of these efforts result in increased carbon capture, sustainable agriculture and local job creation.

These efforts align with our commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, specifically #7 Affordable and Clean Energy, #8 Decent Work and Economic Growth, #13 Climate Action and #15 Life on Land.

In addition to these efforts, we continue our commitment to donate a minimum of 5% of gross revenue to NGOs whose mission closely aligns with the UN SDGs.   Recent donations have gone to support refugees from Ukraine (#16 Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions) through the World Scout Foundation (#5 Gender Equality, #10 Reduced Inequalities, #13 Climate Action, #16 Peace and Justice, and #17 Partnerships for the Goals).  We have increased investment to our local food bank, ECHO, which provides food and shelter in Evergreen, CO (#1 No Poverty and #2 Zero Hunger).  Over the past several years, we’ve been fortunate to exceed our 5% goal significantly.

Additional Commitment in 2022

We are moved and inspired by so many people who are facing adversity, especially those who are fleeing war in Ukraine and those devastated by wild fires in the western United States.  For any new client in 2022, we are committing an additional 5% of gross revenue to these two relief efforts.
